What is Abilify?
Abilify is a psychotropic medication for treating certain mental disorders. It comes in tablets for oral administration with Aripiprazole as main ingredient. The agent is known to block several chemicals in the brain, such as dopamine and serotonin, which are usually elevated in people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. By restoring the balance of these neurotransmitters it helps to alleviate and control the symptoms of mental and mood disorders. The medication comes in various strengths and is intended for once-a-day use.

When is Abilify indicated?

It can decrease hallucinations, improve concentration and working memory, and help people feel less nervous and positively about themselves. The drug can treat severe mood swings and keep them from returning. It can be prescribed to adults and children as young as 6 years old.

How to take Abilify?
Abilify is taken once daily. The starting dose for schizophrenia in adults is 10-15 mg, which can be increased to 30 mg. Children aged 10-17 are started at 2 mg with gradual uptitration to 10 mg. Starting adult dose for depression when used together with antidepressants is 2-5 mg with gradual increase up to 15 mg if necessary. Autism in children aged 6-17 is started at 2 mg with increase up to 5-15 mg. Tourette’s disorder in children aged 6-8 is treated with 5-20 mg. Dose adjustments shouldn’t occur in less than weekly intervals.
