What is Diflucan?
Diflucan (fluconazole) is a drug in the group of antifungal medications, which effectively deals with fungi infections affecting various organs – throat, mouth, lungs, bladder, genitals, and others. Also, the drug is prescribed as preventive medication for patients with weakened immune system (for instance, caused by AIDS or cancer treatment).

What are the indications for using Diflucan?
Diflucan has proved to be highly effective in treatment of:
  • Esophageal/Vaginal/Oropharyngeal candidiasis. These conditions are caused by fungal infections in the areas affecting stomach/genitals/mouth and throat.
  • Urinary tract infections. Diflucan is also prescribed for the treatment of infections, which occur in the bladder, urethra, kidneys, and ureters.
Diflucan may be effective in the treatment of other conditions as determined by your medical advisor.

What is the dosage of Diflucan?
The dosage of Diflucan should be determined by a health specialist, as it largely depends on your particular fungal infection and its severity. The medication comes in tablets, oral suspension, and powder, so the most convenient option can be chosen. A recommended single dose of Diflucan for an ordinary adult patient in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis is 150 mg/day. In the treatment of esophageal and oropharyngeal candidiasis, the dosage is 200 mg/first day and 100 mg/day afterward. The dosage of medication and duration of the treatment course may vary depending on the results achieved with Diflucan.

What are the contraindications for using Diflucan?
It is essential that you inform your medical specialist about any other treatments or medications you’re taking as well as the full history of diseases so that the right dosage of Diflucan can be prescribed. Any liver and kidney diseases, cardiovascular diseases, HIV or AIDS and cancer, should be mentioned before the treatment. Do not combine consumption of Diflucan with birth-control pills, as the drug makes them less effective. Diflucan should not be consumed during pregnancy.

What are the adverse effects of Diflucan?
Severe adverse effects of Diflucan are rare and in most cases are caused by allergic reactions, which can include appearance of skin rash, swelling in face (throat, tongue), fainting, severe dizziness, pounding and fast heartbeats, nausea, vomiting and such. Such reactions to consumption of Diflucan require immediate medical help.
