What is Hytrin?

It is also administered for hypotension management alone or together with other antihypertensive drugs, such as beta-blockers or diuretics. It is the best-choice medication to treat symptomatically prostate hyperplasia and hypertension in male patients.
How to take Hytrin?
For BPH Hytrin is typically administered in initial dose of 1 mg a day before bedtime. The dose is then gradually up-titrated to 10 mg daily for 4-6 weeks. Some men may require as much as 20 mg a day for stable beneficial response. To manage hypertension the drug is administered in a dose of 1-5 mg once or twice daily. Tablets can be taken regardless to meals.
What are Hytrin side effects?
Potential side effects of treatment with Hytrin are: dizziness, hypotension, fatigue, palpitation, somnolence, headache, nasal congestion and dependent edema. In some men the drug administration may lead to decreased libido or impotence and can provoke blurred vision. Fainting and hypotension are usually the result of abrupt dosage increase or adding another antihypertensive agent to the concomitant therapy. In order to avoid the undesirable effects, treatment must be initiated with lose doses.
When is Hytrin contraindicated?
Hytrin is contraindicated to patients with known hypersensitivity to Terazosin hydrochloride. Inform your attending physician about your history of hypotension, liver diseases or prostate cancer. The drug is referred to category C meaning that it can be administered during pregnancy when benefits outweigh the risks. The potential risks and benefits must be discussed with the doctor. Avoid driving, performing hazardous tasks or using machinery while on the drug at least 12 hours after the first intake and after the dose increase.
