What is it used for?
Ketonal relieves the pain, inflammation, swelling, and stiffness caused by certain types of arthritis. It is also used to treat moderate internal pain, muscle pain, menstrual pain, and pain after surgery, or childbirth.

Contraindications and cautions:
Ketonal can affect mental alertness and coordination. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how this drug affects you.
Take only the amount of medication prescribed. If you think that you need more to relieve your symptoms, contact your doctor.
If you have vision or hearing problems, you may need to have your eyes or ears examined.
Tell your doctor if you ever had gastritis or bleeding from the stomach or rectum, ulcers diverticultis, kidney disease, or liver disease.
If you ever had a bad reaction to aspirin or other medications, tell your doctor before taking Ketonal. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should inform their doctors before taking Ketonal.

Side effects: All medicines have side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have any of the following side effects:
1. Indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, stomach pain, gas, loss of appetite. Take Ketonal with food, milk, or antacids.
2. Do not drink alcoholic beverages.
3. Headache, sleeplessness, nervousness, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling of uneasiness. If these effects are severe or persist, contact your doctor.
4. Vision problems, ringing in ears, swelling of feet or hands, skin rash.
Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Interactions: Before taking Ketonal, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs:
• cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune);
• lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid);
• methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall);
• probenecid (Benemid);
• a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin), or an anti-platelet medication such as clopidogrel (Plavix), dipyridamole (Persantine), ticlopidine (Ticlid), and others;
• steroids (prednisone and others);
• aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as diclofenac (Voltaren), etodolac (Lodine), fenoprofen (Nalfon), flurbiprofen (Ansaid), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), indomethacin (Indocin), ketorolac (Toradol), mefenamic acid (Ponstel), meloxicam (Mobic), nabumetone (Relafen), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), and others.
If you are using any of these drugs, you may not be able to use ketonal or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment.
